Duke University offers a suite of secure and accessible AI platforms to students, staff, and faculty. Whether you are involved in AI research and development, or want to learn how to start using AI to power your work, Duke is here to help. Join the Duke AI User Group on Microsoft Teams for peer support or visit the OIT Service Desk for questions about the tools.

Tools for Everyday Use

For everyday tasks like writing, editing and asking questions, use ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot, which are available to all members of the Duke community at no cost or a discounted rate. Use Zoom AI Companion to produce summaries of your Zoom meetings.

Tools for Experimentation and Development

These Duke-managed tools allow users to explore and compare AI models, create custom AI environments, and build apps and tools, respectively.

ChatGPT ChatGPT is designed for a broad audience and can be used for general chatbot tasks to streamline your workflow. This includes answering questions, writing, editing, and synthesizing data and ideas. Duke University faculty, staff, and students. Prepaid licenses are provided at no cost to all undergraduate students, as well as faculty, staff, and graduate students in participating units. All other Duke users can purchase a license at a significantly discounted rate. Sensitive (no PHI), (governed by institutional agreement).
Microsoft Copilot and Copilot for Microsoft 365 Similar to ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot is useful for general chatbot tasks. Copilot for Microsoft 365 is a paid service that integrates with Microsoft applications, using AI to assist with tasks like summarizing, predicting, translating, and generating content. Copilot: All Duke users with a NetID.

Copilot is available at no cost for all Duke users. Copilot for Microsoft 365 is available for purchase to all Duke faculty and staff. Sensitive (no PHI without specific approval), (governed by institutional agreement).
The Zoom AI Companion The tool uses AI to produce summaries of Zoom meetings after they have ended, including participant action items and next steps. All Duke and DKU students, faculty, and staff who use Zoom. No cost for Duke users who use Zoom. Sensitive (no PHI), (governed by institutional agreement).
DukeGPT DukeGPT is useful for exploring, comparing, and testing AI models, including on-prem and open-source options. The tool is also helpful for questions that require access to internal Duke knowledge sources (e.g., Duke directory, teaching tools, etc.). Duke University faculty, staff, and students. No cost for basic use. Sensitive (no PHI), (Duke-managed, data-protected).
MyGPT Builder This tool can be used to create custom AI environments, including course/department-specific tools. Duke University faculty, staff, and students. Cost-recovery for some models, usage-based. Sensitive (no PHI), (Dedicated, sandboxed).
AI Gateway The tool can be used to build AI-powered apps and tools. Users can build and deploy unique AI-driven tools, chatbots, and services, leveraging both on-prem and cloud-based models. Duke University faculty, staff, and students. Designed for developers and advanced users. Cost-recovery service, usage-based. Sensitive (no PHI), (Secure API, user-managed).
