at Duke
Microsoft Copilot is an AI companion that is freely available to the Duke community. Copilot is powerful, built on Large Language Models (LLMs) such as GPT-4, or advanced tools designed to predict and generate text based on your internal data (emails, reports, presentations, articles, etc.). Because Copilot access is provided under Duke’s Microsoft Campus Agreement and any data or content is protected by Duke’s data security and licensing agreement, your content in Copilot is secure.
Copilot for Microsoft 365 is a paid service designed to enhance the way you work within the Microsoft 365 suite. It integrates with Microsoft 365 applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and more, using large language models to assist with tasks such as understanding, summarizing, predicting, recalling, translating, and generating content.

AI Assistants in Meetings
The integration of AI assistants in meetings and classes via tools such as Zoom Companion (now available to all Duke Zoom users) offers numerous benefits, such as automating tasks like note taking, scheduling, and follow-ups. However, the use of AI in capturing meetings and classes comes with significant risks, particularly concerning privacy and security. It is essential to ensure the ethical use of AI while maintaining a balance between automation and human input to maximize benefits and minimize risks. OIT has developed a set of guidelines to help Duke leverage the advantages of AI technology while minimizing associated risk.
